What Our Clients Say

What kind of damage can a squirrel do?

In the event where a squirrel finds their way behind your walls, they’re able to tear on insulation, they can chew through wires, and leave damages on the sidings, under the soffits of your home, the underside of an arch, balcony, or overhanging eaves. Overtime, if unsolved, with enough damage, your property can be victim to a structural issues or a draft home due to problems caused by squirrels.

Not only can squirrels cause damage internally, in some cases squirrels can leave evidence of damages to your yard. Squirrel find their way to bird feeders, bird baths and gardens are especially vulnerable to squirrels as a reliable food source if left unguarded.

The main damages a squirrel can cause are a result of their natural chewing habits. When outdoor they chew on bark, twigs, berries and nuts but when residing indoors on peoples’ properties, they find their way to wires, insulation and struts. The most common kinds of squirrels are grey squirrels and the red squirrels, especially in the York, Missisauga and Richmond Hill and Markham areas of Ontario.

What should I do once I know my home has a squirrel problem?

We provide fast, effective and, most importantly, humane animal control services with your needs and concerns at the forefront of all our decisions. We first to a thorough inspection and based off our situation analysis we will identify the main entry points, as well as other vulnerable spots and potential entry areas. Based off this information we lay out the nest options to tackle the issue head on with you and your property and the structure of your property as our first priority as well as the safety of animals.

The most common method of removal is called the ‘one-way door method’. In this process, all enty points are sealed excluding one main route where a one-way door is installed. This allows for the squirrel to exit the premise but prevents re-entry. Once the squirrels exit the property as part of their regular routine, they are unable to return, successfully evacuating them from your property.

In the event where the squirrels have babies, the one-way door method is not used as this poses risks to the young animals, leaving them abandoned. In these cases, instead, our technician will physically remove the babies from the property and safely place them into an insulated box where they will stay until the mother comes and picks them up. The mother then relocates each baby to a new den area.

While not common, there are some situations that requires that the squirrel need to be trapped or snared. In these case, the squirrel will be relocated no further than a one mile radius in accordance to Ontario Provincial Law.

How do we make sure you don’t have squirrel related issues again?

To ensure that squirrels will not enter through any other weak-points or potential entry-points, a prevention method can be conducted. This ensures that the weak-points, entry-points, potential entry-points and main entry-points are protected by galvanized steel mesh, a material strong enough to prevent squirrels from chewing through.
